REACH Mandatory Training
Diisocyanate professional users
Under REACH regulation, all users of polyurethane products made by reacting diisocyanate are required to complete relevant training in relation to safe use. As of 24th August 2023, training is required for all professional users of PU products (with a total monomeric diisocyanate concentration of > 0.1%) within the EU and UK.
As a manufacturer, we have a responsibility to notify you of the training requirements. It is down to the users and their employees to complete the training and keep records.
What are Diisocyanates?
Diisocyanates are used in coating, adhesives and sealants and are a family of chemical building blocks mainly used to make polyurethane products.
Diisocyanates are classified as a potential carcinogens and known skin irritants and sensitisers, eye irritants and respiratory sensitiser, which is why enhanced safety measures have been introduced under REACH.
Mandatory training requirements
Professional and industrial users of diisocyanates will be responsible for ensuring required training has been complete by themselves and their employees. This is mandatory and is available online. Training and certification, which involves a short test of understanding must be completed by August the 23rd.
The FEICA European Executive Board has decided to financially support the training of professionals and industrial users of diisocyanate and polyurethane adhesives and sealants for members and clients.
By following the link below, you can receive training and certification for the safe handling of diisocyanates according to the legal training requirements.
The web-based training platform contains various sections. The training selector can be used for guidance as to the correct training according to the products and applications used.
