REACH Training for Diisocyanates

REACH (Registration Evaluation Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals Regulation) has established new rules in the EU and UK for using products containing more than 0.1% of monomeric diisocyanates. This includes polyurethane products found in some forms of liquid waterproofing systems often used in roofing construction projects. 

Below, we discuss essential information regarding diisocyanates and how to access the free REACH training programme.

What are Diisocyanates?

Diisocyanates are used in coating, adhesives and sealants and are a family of chemical building blocks mainly used to make polyurethane products.

Diisocyanates are classified as potential carcinogens and known skin irritants and sensitisers, eye irritants and respiratory sensitisers, which is why enhanced safety measures have been introduced under the new REACH regulations.

Mandatory Training Requirements

Professional and industrial users of diisocyanates will be responsible for ensuring that the required training has been completed by themselves and their employees. As such, Garland UK has notified our network of Approved Contractor’s of the mandatory training requirements now in place. 

Training and certification, which involves a short test of understanding, must be completed by the 23^rd of August, 2023.
